Night of the Stars 2007

Another year, another awards ceremony. Originally intended to be a low key event for us, Night of the Stars quickly became a big night with a Bus of the Undead Films contingent of just under 30 people. We saw plenty of familiar faces and it was good to catch up with friends and a few of the other big players amongst the Mothra makers. Most of the films were well represented and it was a large audience.

The setup was once again in cabaret style and alcohol featured pretty prominently at most people's tables. The 2007 theme was game show - which while it didn't really work on stage with the 'funny' clips, they did have some great party favours at the table. We saw many people playing 'wheel of fortune' with each other.

One of the high points of the evening was the presence of Mothra legends turned real film makers Chris Stapp and Matt Heath of Back of the Y fame. We got to see a quick clip from their upcoming The Devil Dared Me To, and they had the good grace to make fun of the organised entertainment.

Chris and Matt presented a few awards including the Best Actor award which went to Tim for his role as Ted and also the Best Mothra award which went to our 48Hours entry, Eye of the Beholder. We had been slightly nervous as it had gone the entire first half of the ceremony with only nominations. It wasn't until the second half that we got the nod, firstly with Best Animation for the utterly ridiculous Battle Squid, and then at almost the very end of the ceremony with Best Actor and Best Mothra. In total we racked up a fantastic ten nominations and three awards, which is a pretty good number by our reckoning.

After the ceremony turned out to be just as much fun as the event itself as we got to 'hang out' and talk crap with the Back of the Y masters at the campus bar. Hopefully we didn't come across as being too 'fan boy' to them, it was great hearing what they had to say about their current and upcoming projects and they were cool enough to pose for photos with us. We even got to see a quick preview clip of the new Back of the Y which Matt had on a portable device. A big thanks to them both, you guys freaking rule. A new season of Back of the Y makes us hard just thinking about it.

Of course speaking with them did make us feel like small fish, perhaps summed up best as 'They were talking to us about London Premieres and working with professional stuntmen, all we had to talk about was that episode of Family Guy from the other night'. We may be small fry, but they at least give us something to aspire to.

When the bar stopped serving we took it as our queue to leave, heading home to verbally jerk each other off. We partied for a few more hours before people started to pike. All up it was an amazing night, thanks to everyone who was there to help us celebrate. Hopefully we will catch you all next year!
